FINNEGAN'S SQUAD: "T.R.A.P."



               BEGIN OPENING ACT:

               EXT. WOODS NEAR COMPOUND - NIGHT

               Finn moves through the darkness tracking Tremblay's group.  

               They catch up to the squad of mostly wounded as they secure
               position for pick-up.

               Finn looks around.

                                   FINN
                         Where's the Pilot?

               Second doesn't respond at first, Finn steps forward directly
               eyeing the Lef-tenant.

                                   FINN (CONT'D)
                         The Pilot, did you recover him?

                                   SECOND
                         Yes sir...
                             (looking around confused)
                         He's...

               Third points to one of the figures laying on the ground.

                                   THIRD
                         Over here sir.

               Finn moves past them to the Pilot, Gerrard Duplessis.  He's
               alive but injured, shot during the Evac.  The Medico is
               tending to him.

                                   PEPPER
                         He took a couple on the way out but 
                         he's stable.

                                   FINN
                         Wake him.

                                   PEPPER
                         That's not a good idea, sir.

                                   FINN
                         We've got nine dead and we still
                         don't know where the craft is. 
                         Wake him, Sergeant!

               Pepper reaches into her pack and pulls out what she needs to
               obey this command.  

               The Pilot's eyes flutter at the injection and then his head
               moves back and forth deliriously while he mutters.  

               Finn moves in close to the Pilot.

                                   FINN (CONT'D)
                         Lef-tenant Duplessis.  Lef
                         tenant...
                             (no reaction)
                         Gerrard!  This is Captain Finnegan,
                         United Network Space Command,
                         Peacekeeping Forces.

                                   PILOT
                             (delirious)
                         No time to finish...

                                   FINN
                         No time to finish what?

                                   PILOT
                             (muttering)
                         Couper le contact... ammaser
                         incomplete...  

               Finn doesn't understand.  He turns futilely looking for
               someone who understands French and then turns back to the
               Pilot.

                                   FINN
                         In English, Gerrard!  English. 
                         Where's the craft?

                                   PILOT
                         Čtang De Berre.

               Frustrated Finn looks around again.

                                   FINN
                         Does anyone speak French?

               Dawn turns, her hand half raised.

                                   DAWN LEGATO
                         Me!

               Finn waves her over.

                                   FINN
                         He's babbling, he started off
                         telling me he had "no time to
                         finish" but then..

                                   PILOT
                             (muttering)
                         No, no time... Couper le contact...
                         Russie salope!... ammaser 
                         incomplete...  Cobalt...

               Finn doesn't need an interpreter for that.  He turns back,
               facing the Pilot with grave intensity.

                                   FINN
                         Cobalt?

               He clutches the Pilot firmly but already the first hit of
               revival medication has worn off.

                                   FINN (CONT'D)
                         Gerrard.  Cobalt what?
                             (to Pepper)
                         Give him another dose!

                                   PEPPER
                         Are you trying to kill him?

                                   FINN
                         If he's talking about what I think
                         he is we could be at war in less
                         than an hour.  Revive him!

               Pepper reluctantly gives the Pilot another dose.  

               The Pilot's eyes flutter open a moment later.  

               Finn moves in close.  Other's including Bale have come
               closer.

                                   FINN (CONT'D)
                         Gerrard.  The Cobalt, are you
                         talking about a Cobalt Generator?

                                   PILOT
                         Oui, couper le contact...

                                   DAWN LEGATO
                         He tried to restart something.

                                   PILOT
                         Ammaser... incomplete...

                                   DAWN LEGATO
                         The build up was incomplete.

                                   FINN
                         That doesn't make sense.  A Cobalt
                         Generator either builds up or it
                         doesn't.  If it doesn't there's no
                         problem.

                                   DAWN LEGATO 
                         I'm sorry Finn, that's what he
                         said.

               Finn looks down at the Pilot.  He's fading in and out of
               consciousness.  

               Finn stands, trying to process this information quickly.  

                                   DAWN LEGATO
                         Maybe he's talking about his
                         mission?  He didn't complete that.

               The Pilot tries to rise, reaching out for something.

                                   PILOT
                         Non... Le Clip... pour le Cobalt...

               Finn looks back at him.  He's not reaching out for something,
               he's holding something in his hand.  

               Finn moves to him and takes the item staring down at it and
               everything it means.  He turns cradling the clip carefully.

                                   FINN
                         This is bad.

                                   BALE
                         Sir?

               Finn holds up the clip.

                                   FINN
                         This is an abort clip to a Cobalt
                         90 Driver.  Somewhere out there is
                         a nuclear generator building up
                         power without an off switch.

               On reaction.
