INFOGANDA

I get emails every day wondering why I haven't had anything to say about the U.S. Presidential race.

I'd like that to stop, but it won't, so I'm going to say a few things about the U.S. Race in the probably vain hopes that I'll get a rest on this subject and be able to focus my attention on things that matter.

There are three reasons why I haven't said anything about the election before now.

The FIRST REASON is that we're not even half way to Election Day.   It seems sort of silly to be commenting on something still 8 months off.   Kind of like planning Christmas tree decorations at Easter.   Besides, neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have had their conventions yet so officially we don't know who is in the race.

Unofficially of course we know it'll be Kerry's Democrats VS Bush's Republicans.

The SECOND REASON is that America is a Bi-Polar Nation.   Only 50 percent of the people living in the States qualify to vote, the rest being either children, prisoners, illegal immigrants, terrorists or other ineligible persons.

Of the 50 percent who can vote, only 50 bother to.   And of the 50 percent who do vote nearly half vote Republican every time and nearly half vote Democrat.

It's hard to get excited about a race so evenly divided.

Then there's the problem with the electoral college.   In all but two States any Presidential candidate who wins more than fifty of the electoral districts in a State gets credit for the whole state.

You'd never see that in Canada.   The idea of all 103 seats in Ontario going Liberal when only 41 percent of the votes went to that party would cause some sort of revolution.   We like our representation to be representative of the actual votes a Candidate/Party received.   We thought the Americans did too.   Apparently we were wrong.

The THIRD REASON is... and there's just no polite way to put this - - but I just don't understand why Bush is still President.

Clinton has sexual relations with a consenting partner and Impeachment proceedings just couldn't get started fast enough.

Bush has dragged America's reputation as a World LEADER into the toilet and half the population is still supporting him.

I was hoping that before I sat down to comment on this I'd have some idea of "why" but I don't.   I don't because aside from "blind loyalty" there is no sane answer.

No matter how you put it, Bush has repeatedly lied to the American public.   And if they reward him in November with a second term then you might as well push that Doomsday Clock all the way to Mid-night because the end isn't near, it's long overdue.

Bush lied about being a consensus builder.

Bush lied about there being Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.

Bush lied about his commitment to rescuing Afghanistan from the clutches of extremist, a mission the U.S. abandoned the moment the flash from the shiny coin that was Iraq caught their attention.

And the lies keep piling on:

He was repeatedly A.W.O.L in his National Guard Duty during the Vietnam War.   Instead of dealing with this the Administration continues to throw up a cloud of smoke and mirrors hoping to outlast the news cycle on this story.

And when the can't get the news they want they hire a firm and make it up.

That's right.   A little gossipy rag called The New York Times recently reported the Bush Administration had sent out a "video press release" that was disguised as a news story promoting their Medicare bill.

And not only did this "video press release" fail to identify that it was produced by the White House but this "fake news story" was actually aired in 33 markets by local TV Stations fooled into thinking it was legitimate news.

Where is the Bush Administration getting these ideas from?   George Orwell's 1984?!!

And that's not the worst of it.   Recent reports put the actual budget for the recently passed Medicare package at a whopping 550 Billion dollars!   A full 135 Billion more than the White House said it would when they presented it to Congress.   So what, right?   Cost overruns are pretty common, right?

Sure.   And the Bush Administration knew, from the beginning, that the program was going to cost a hundred Billion dollars more than they were saying.   How do we know that?   Because reports have just come out that they actively worked TO MUZZLE THE BUREAUCRATS WHO KNEW THEY WERE LYING UNTIL THE BILL PASSED!

Which brings us back again to the big question:   "Why is Bush Still President?"

Why aren't pickets lined up outside the White House?   Why aren't a million people protesting on the infamous Washington Mall?   Why hasn't Congress and the House of Representatives begun Impeachment proceedings?

Maybe it's because American dissenters are too scared under the new Patriot Act to make waves at home for fear of ending up detained, without Legal counsel or their family's knowledge for days, weeks and months at a time.

Maybe it's because the "Home of the Free and Land of the Brave" isn't much of either anymore and the only people free enough to point out these things don't live in the U.S.A.
